A Try-In is intended to be 3D printed for the sole purpose of testing general fit, alignment and aesthetics with the patient before producing a final prosthesis.
Try-In's are not a reliable test of passivity due to the tolerance issues of 3D printing and flex in materials.
Vertical Dimension and Occlusion check.
If bite is open, adjust to bring closer.
If the VD is correct, but the bite is incorrect, adjust to bring into occlusion.
Midline check.
Have the patient smile and compare the midline to the facial references, namely the nose, eyes and ears. If incorrect, mark the ideal midline with pencil or marker. New photos are necessary.
Scans
If no adjustments have been made, no additional scans or photos are necessary.
If physical adjustments have been made, redo the "foundation scans":
- Restoring arch (prosthesis in-situ).
- Antagonist dentition.
- Bite scan (left side).
- Bite scan (right side).
If the intaglio surface of the Try-In has been adjusted:
- Try-In scan extra-orally, 360° using scan analogs.
Photos
If the midline has been marked, take new patient photos:
- Full-face, relaxed bite smiling.
- Full-face, relaxed bite smiling with retractors.
Follow patient photograph guide here for more information.
